Unlearning Weekenders Picnic Meeting
At Maclean Park in Strathcona, Zoe Kreye and Catherine Grau gather participants to discuss and workshop in preparation for their 12hour performance art procession through Vancouver
Unlearning Weekenders: free public workshops for unlearning.
Throughout June 2013, artists Zoe Kreye and Catherine Grau have been leading a series of workshops, from dance and movement to prop and costume building.
The theme is unlearning.
What does this mean to you? What have you been taught that you need to shake off? How would it benefit you to look at things you take for granted in a different light?
On a sunny afternoon, a group of Unlearning participants and curious newcomers gathered in Maclean Park in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver.
Food was brought and shared. Everyone introduced themselves, made themselves feel at home, extended comfort between each other.
Ideas surfaced and were explored: about public space, performance art, actions, bodies and boundaries, duration and energy, exhaustion and stamina. And naps!
A map was opened, a path revealed. Next: who knows?
Unlearning Weekenders is more about questions than answers, although Saturday June 15th is bound to release some clues to the curiosities…

The procession is what you choose to make of it. There is no expectation or demand of time: participate for as long or as little as you like. But whatever you do, don’t miss out on your opportunity to UNLEARN!
On Sat June 15, search #unlearningprocession on twitter for regular updates as to the procession’s location in the city. It starts at 9am in Hastings Sunrise and finishes in Stanley Park at 9pm. See you someplace along the journey..!
