Publishing Ain’t Dead, And Project Space Proves It
Second Annual Vancouver Art/Book Fair brings the goods to the Vancouver Art Gallery
On the 1st weekend of October 2013, Project Space held it’s 2nd Art/Book Fair, “a two-day festival of artists’ publishing that features nearly one hundred local, national and international publishers of books, magazines, zines, printed ephemera and digital or other experimental forms of publication, as well as on-site programs, performances and installations.”
It was entirely free and open to the public.
And it was pretty rad finding out where it was held: advertised as the Vancouver Art Gallery Annex, it was curious-inducing, wondering what that meant, exactly. What was surprising was that the annex is an entire multi-story wing of the gallery, it’s main floor normally only known as where the bathrooms are.
In fact, the annex’s many floors are reached by gorgeous marble staircases (or elevator) that curl onto hallways flanked by multiple massive spaces.
Throughout this fantastic weekend, these spaces were packed full of tables, publishers and their printed material, presenters, and occasional participatory performances. Such as Hammock Residency‘s Heidi Nagtegaal.
Plus the VAG had a book sale.
Check out this massive gallery of photos courtesy sharpshooter Jon Vincent, who was so impressed with the range of books, people, and events, he went back for both days!
A few Instagram pics here too.
Thanks Heidi, for the invite!
And to the Anteism team, fantastic to meet you!
Project Space, big love to you for making this event happen!
Long live #yvrart
