SOFAR Sounds Comes to Vancouver
songs from a room
Words and Photography by Sarah Faye Bernstein
On November 17th, I had the ultimate pleasure of attending my first sofar sounds show in Vancouver. What started as a small, by donation live music show in an apartment in London, “songs from a room” has exploded globally, and now Vancouver’s got our own branch happening! The atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s just really cool to go to a music show, put on by music lovers who genuinely want to hear and share some great music. The bands play for free, and if guests have a good time or are feeling generous, they’re welcome to donate to the cause. Check out their youtube videos to see what I’m talking about.
To get an invite to this months show, I signed up, which involved letting the sofar team know why I’d like to attend the show, what my relationship to music was, etc. There is an option to bring a plus one. I receive a confirmation, with an address and time to show up. The selected sofar guests and I were instructed to relax, be quiet, and take in the experience and the bands played beautiful sets.
